Vashti Maya started from a love of making vintage inspired clothing. From turning my passion into a business, my aim is to create beautiful clothing that is produced in a sustainable way. Clothing that is made to last and most importantly, kind to ourselves, to animals and to our planet.
The hope is that each piece of Vashti Maya clothing becomes a much loved and long term part of your wardrobe.
Vashti Maya is a very small business. I design and make all of the clothes and accessories in my little workshop and also run the business side of things. Photography is done by my partner Peter. Running the business on a small scale means I can be confident that I achieve my aim to be sustainable.
These are the ways I work to meet my aims of being an earth friendly business:
For new fabrics only organic cotton, organic linen and organic hemp are used. I also love to source vintage fabrics and upcycle older fabrics and use them to create garments and accessories.
Sewing threads are all organic cotton, beautifully spun on wooden reels from Scanfil, The Netherlands.
Buttons, buckles and beads are all made from natural materials such as wood, glass, metal and mother of pearl.
These are upcycled wherever possible.
Packaging is recyclable and plastic free.
Brown paper, tissue paper and jute string are used to carefully pack your orders ready for shipping.
I am always open to advice and suggestions in meeting my aims, so please feel free to get in touch.
